Arch-shaped Gabions
The Arch-shaped Gabion system is a simple, yet great solution. The boxes are easy to deliver and assemble. There are many possible varieties that can be developed from the basic elements. The diversity of the filling materials gives scope for further variations.

KOBOX markets the products of the German manufacturer, Ferrondo. These products meet all the relevant requirements.

The arch-shaped baskets are offered in a variety of sizes; the bigger ones - with a diameter of 1m and a maximal height of 50-150cm - are recommended for waterfront development or protection uses.

Variable filling material::
  • The frost-proof stone filling results in a classical look for the gabion and is beneficial in the following aspects: no frost damage, free draining, therefore no drainage system required. Its cylinder form is the feature that really distinguishes it from the other structures; it does not only provide innovative aesthetics, but also fast constructability, as it does not require the use of spacer hooks. Due to its round shape and the excellent quality of the material, even without the hooks, it is a dimensionally stable and durable structure which fits well into the environment and is an efficient system for waterfront protection (Illustration 1.).
  • If the plantation on the waterfront and the accurate inlay into the environment (e.g. in case of a stream revitalization) are of great importance, we recommend the filling of suitable soil into the structure, combined with intensive planting works. The sides can completely be covered with climbing plants; besides ensuring an efficient waterfront protection and a green coating, it provides the system with a natural look. Due to the staged arrangement of the arch-shaped elements, the natural watering of the planting medium is possible, which creates the ideal circumstances in order to early achieve large-scale plant coverage. When choosing the plant species, the local conditions need to be taken into account. If we would like to have an evergreen cover, ivy can be a good choice. This method can work well with the traditional stone filling. Under permanent water cover, stone-filled gabions are recommended for use; the soil-filled baskets are only suitable to bear temporary water coverage (Illustration 2.).
